The Grief Cha-Cha: One Step Forward, One Step Back

Shew! I feel like I am dancing the Cha Cha every week.

Sometimes, healing from child loss feels like a dance no one wants to learn.

You take one step forward—maybe you smiled today, maybe you laughed—and then suddenly, without warning, you take a step back. The tears come again. The ache hits harder. The memories feel sharp instead of soft.

And for a while, it feels like failure. Like you’re back at the beginning.

But today, I realized something: one step forward and one step back isn’t failure. It’s not a disaster. It’s not starting over.

It’s just the rhythm of grief.

It’s a part of the process. A gentle reminder that healing isn’t a straight line. That love this deep doesn’t let go easily, and neither does grief.

So if you’re dancing through the pain today—step by step—just know you’re not alone. Backward doesn’t mean broken. It means you’re still moving. Still loving. Still trying.

And that’s more than enough.
